Tornadoes hit the Port Stephens area on the afternoon of the 18 November, 2001. The photos below were taken while storm chasing in the western Maitland area. It is believed that the storm pictured below was the same system that hit Port Stephens at around 3pm. This storm did not produce anything severe in the Maitland region, but it developed a nice looking shelf cloud and a distinct green tinge was noticeable. To a surprise, no hail was observed.
