The thunderstorm below was not considered severe. It hit the Maitland/Newcastle region producing a brief heavy shower and some wind gusts up to 80km/h. The colouring caused by the storm was spectacular. Further more, the storm left a trail of mammatus clouds that gave an awesome and eerie orange glow as pictured below at Thornton. This orange glow was noticed across a large area of the Lower Hunter with reports from Newcastle to Branxton.
