    Barrington Tops, NSW
    27-28 August 2001

Between the 26-28/8/01, Barrington Tops and other elevated areas of the Hunter received a good fall of snow. The snow began to fall in the evening of the 26th and continued to fall until the morning of the 28th. It was believed that in the lower elevations (~1000-1300m) that a heavy shower of rain occurred in the afternoon of the 27th for a few hours and then quickly turned to snow again. It is unclear whether this heavy shower actually fell as rain or snow at the higher levels (~1400-1550m).
Most of these photos below were taken around Hunter Springs/Tomalla on the 27th and 28th. The roads to the highest parts of the Tops, such as Polblue, were closed due to the heavy snow. Nevertheless, the snow at Tomalla was quite deep. On the Tuesday (28th) the average depth of snow was around 20-25cm with drifts over 50cm in places.
