First snow for the season
Saturday, 29 June 2002
The Barrington Tops received its first cover of snow for the season
in the last 24 hours. A significant cold front that brought snow to the
Southern and Central Tablelands hit the Hunter Region yesterday morning.
Light snowfalls fell off and on for the next 24 hours leaving 2 - 5 cm cover
on the ground.
Due to the lack of moisture, snowfalls were not that heavy. Dew point
temperatures remained well below 0°C across the region. However, the
western side of the ranges had a different story with slightly higher
dew points. The higher moisture in the western parts resulted in
snowfalls and isolated showers across the Central Tablelands. The Hunter
was effected by the drying W'ly winds, which are typical for this time of
year.
