Hottest Christmas day in over a decade
Friday, 26 December 2003
Yesterday was the hottest Christmas day in over a decade. A widespread area of
the Hunter experienced temperatures in the mid to high 30's. Cessnock recorded
the highest temperatures with the airport recording 40.0°C and Nulkaba recording
40.5°C. The weather for most of Christmas day was clear with most stations
across the region reporting less then 2/8 cloud cover. Winds were generally
light inland but was fresh on the coast in the afternoon due to the ENE
seabreeze.
Despite the high temperatures, no records were broken. The hottest temperature
ever recorded in the Hunter on Christmas day is 45.6°C, which was recorded in
Jerrys Plains in 1957. back...
