The 19th of January 1994 was a hot and dry day. Cumulus towers were forming in the afternoon to the south and the west, which is typical on a hot summers day. A cold front was approaching from the south rapidly. The cold front enhanced the development of thunderstorms to the south, with severe thunderstorms hitting Sydney and the Central Coast by late afternoon. This approaching thunderstorm pictured below was taken looking south at around 6pm. This storm brought a strong microburst when it hit and dumped 4cm hailstones across the floodplains east of Morpeth.
