Rain eases drought conditions
Saturday, 30 November 2002
Heavy rain as a
result of widespread thunderstorms yesterday afternoon have left the Hunter
soaked. Everywhere from the mid Hunter to the lower Hunter got more then 20 mm,
with some areas around Dungog receiving more then 80 mm. The storms hit the area
around 3:30pm and onwards. The thunderstorms were of multicell form and did not
produce any severe effects apart from the heavy rain. Unfortunately parts of the
Upper Hunter did not receive as much as the mid to lower Hunter with Scone only
recording 12 mm to 9am this morning.
Despite the heavy
rain yesterday afternoon, still much more rain is needed. The development of the
thunderstorms were a result of a trough line. Moisture infeed into NSW has
increased this week due to the extra monsoonal activity further North. These
factors are a promising sign for those hoping for more rain.
