Gale force winds hit the Lower Hunter
Monday, 20 August 2001
Gale force winds across
the lower Hunter have caused minor damages in the last couple of days.
The winds were averaging at 40kts at times with gusts over 50kts in
the Maitland/Cessnock area on Saturday morning. The winds were a result
of passing cold fronts, which also affected parts of Southern NSW and
Victoria. Maximum wind gusts were recorded at 80kts in some places of
Victoria and 55kts in the Illawarra and the South Coast of NSW. A maximum
wind gust was recorded at Morpeth of 57kts on Saturday. The winds have
been the strongest since June, 1998.
