Weather Photos >> Snow >> Barrington Tops, NSWBarrington Tops, NSW 18 July 2004
Between the 17 - 20/7/04 the Barrington Tops received a substantial snowfall. The higher parts of the Barrington Tops received a snow accumulation of over 35cm on the ground in less than a 72 hour period. Most of the snow fell overnight on the 17th and on the 18th (when these photos were taken). On the morning of the 18th, snow was visible from the New England Highway from Muswellbrook on nearby hills. The hills around Murrurundi and Scone appeared snow capped.
Late evening of the 17th the freezing level got down to approximately 800m in the atmosphere, resulting in snowfalls to elevations as low as 400m. However, the snow did not settle on grounds any lower than 500 - 600m.
This snowfall was the most widespread in the Upper Hunter since the snowfalls of August 1996.
